A handful of SPW swimmers are heading to Samoa on Sunday (20th June) for the Oceania Championships.
Amy Allen, Amelia Evatt-Davey, Madeline Groves, Grant Irvine, Mitch Larkin, and Amy Smith are packing their bags for the championships, which will see athletes from 23 countries compete over the six days.
For Mitch Larkin, the Championships will be his chance to race internationally after narrowly missing out on selection for the Pan Pacific Championships and Commonwealth Games teams. Mitch's time for the 400m IM at the Australian Age championships in April would have seen him make the team for Delhi, however he was still suffering from glandular fever.
Madeline Groves will be the baby of the squad.
The Oceania Swimming Championships started in 1993 and involve teams from: Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji Islands, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Norfolk Island, Northern Marianas, Palu, Papua New Guinea, Somoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tokelau, Tonga, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna.
The Championships will run from 21st to 26th June.
